Pakistan will be desperate to bounce back in the second Test against Bangladesh after enduring a ten-wicket defeat in the series opener.

Pakistan and Bangladesh have been penalised for maintaining a slow over-rate in the recently concluded Test at the Rawalpindi Stadium. Due to the offence, the Asian neighbours have seen a major drop in their World Test Championship (WTC) points. It marks a huge blow for Pakistan, who currently hold the eighth spot in the WTC standings. After the news came to light, many cricket fans trolled the Shan Masood-led side, underling their prolonged lean patch in the longest format.

A day after the Rawalpindi Test concluded, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released a statement. According to the cricket governing body, Pakistan were six overs short of the acceptable over-rate which cost them six WTC points along with 30 per cent of the match fee. Bangladesh, on the other hand, were three overs short. It led them to lose three WTC points and 30 per cent of the match free.

“Pakistan and Bangladesh docked crucial WTC25 points for slow over-rates in the Rawalpindi Test,” the ICC shared on X (formerly Twitter). Reposting the post, a fan dropped a hilarious meme to portray Pakistan’s present situation in the WTC standings.

The viral comment featured a popular scene from the 2014 Bollywood blockbuster PK, starring Aamir Khan who essayed the role of an innocent alien in the comedy sci-fi. In the picture, the actor is seen stealing coins from a blind man begging on a footbridge. According to the fan, the scene perfectly sums up the story of the Pakistan Test team following the recent slow over-rate offence.

“Hahahah!! Only if there was a competition for sense of humor Pakistan would be Australia of it!” said another fan, reacting to the post.

“Should give some points for the declaration,” said another fan.

Pakistan will be desperate to bounce back in their next match against Bangladesh after enduring a ten-wicket defeat in the series opener. The hosts pulled off a roaring start to the first Test, with Mohammad Rizwan and Saud Shakeel notching centuries in the first innings. They declared at 448/6 and Bangladesh responded with 556 runs.

The Pakistan batting line-up collapsed like a deck of cards in the second innings. Mohammad Rizwan chipped in with a gritty half-century while the majority of his teammates returned with a single-digit score.

Bangladesh held their opponents to 146 runs and lost no wickets during the fourth-innings chase, winning their first ever Test against Pakistan.
