There are moments when we wish we could quit our work to pursue our passion. Making it a reality, though, is a challenging and risky road. That one leaf of faith should be a calculated risk. That’s what Nischa Shah did, and thankfully, it all paid off. Personal Finance YouTuber Shah left her high-paying career in investment banking to focus on creating video full-time. Shah, who made a handsome living as an investment banker for over 10 years, opted to leave the position last year at the age of 29.

The London-based banker told CNBC Make It that she had been moving up the corporate ladder for over 10 years before realising her work wasn’t “fulfilling.” Shah told the news organisation that, despite working for a corporation for nine years, she didn’t feel that her work was “intellectually stimulating” or truly challenging. She expressed her desire to figure out how to help others while earning money to do so.

After going through a “rock bottom phase” around two and a half years ago, she made the decision to employ a Law of Attraction planner, which entails visualising desires and objectives, to take a fresh look at her life. She told CNBC Make It that the planner included questions and suggestions such as, “What would you do if money was not an issue?”

Shah then made the decision to capitalise on her strengths. She was passionate in simplifying difficult information for everyone and personal finance. She had also once assisted her parents in avoiding a tax charge of almost £40,000 (roughly Rs 43 lakh) after their tax advisor had overlooked certain crucial details.

In December 2021, Shah began experimenting with creating YouTube videos on personal finance and self-development. As of now, Shah has more than one million YouTube subscribers. According to CNBC Make It, she made more than Rs 8 crore from YouTube between May 2023 and May 2024.

This accomplishment prompted her to leave her investment banking position in January, despite the fact that she was due to get a six-figure bonus just two months later. “I’m making a lot more than I was in banking,” Shah said.
