Renowned food and grocery delivery companies witnessed their highest-ever single-day orders this New Year’s Eve as people around the country celebrated the occasion with their family and friends. Sharing a few interesting facts about New Year’s Eve on social media platform X, Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal said Indians tipped more than Rs 97 lakh to the delivery partners on December 31.

In another post, Goyal shared that Zomato this time delivered almost as many orders as it did on New Year Eves in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 combined.
“Fun fact: We’ve delivered almost as many orders on NYE 23 as we did on NYE 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 combined. Excited about the future,” the CEO wrote on X.

Goyal shared that Zomato and Blinkit had over 3.2 lakh delivery partners at work on December 31. “Thank you for helping the nation celebrate,” he added.
Also, he said that a person in Kolkata placed 125 items in a single order.
“Really want to attend the party in Kolkata – where someone just ordered 125 items in a single order,” he wrote.
When somebody asked how many drivers will be picking up that order, Goyal replied, “1 delivery partner (just checked – all 125 are rumali rotis).”
Sharing another fun fact, he wrote, “8422 orders were placed at 8:06 pm – that’s 140 orders every second.”
Earlier in the day, Goyal shared images of the “war room” from the company headquarters as the food delivery giant geared up for the massive surge in orders on New Year’s Eve.

Albinder Dhindsa, CEO of Blinkit, also shared that it hit the highest ever orders in a day and orders per minute.
