In a scenario demanding a standing ovation, the SpiceJet crew embodied the essence of “unwavering commitment and dedication” as they assisted a 72-year-old lady who had defecated in the aisle. The incident, which unfolded on April 12th aboard SpiceJet flight SG035 from Kozhikode to Jeddah, gained attention when Virendra Malhotra, Vice President of Flight Operations at SpiceJet Airline, shared the details on LinkedIn.
Mr. Malhotra recounted, “Approximately 40 minutes after take-off, we received information regarding elderly 72-year-old lady passenger who had defecated in the aisle multiple times. The incidents occurred from the 17th to the 21st row, and later from the second-to-last row leading into the lavatory..” He then detailed how her family was unable to provide the necessary assistance, leaving her stranded in the aisle.

“Senior Cabin Crew Akshay stepped in and comforted the lady. Since the family was not carrying any spare clothes, Akshay went row by row asking for spare clothes and an adult diaper. He was able to convince one lady passenger in 30C and another in 31F to give their spare clothes and an adult diaper. These passengers even offered and came forth to help clean the elderly lady along with Akshay. After she was cleaned, she was escorted back to her seat,” Mr. Malhotra disclosed.
However, the most daunting task came afterward; cleaning the faeces scattered across the floor, adhered to the carpet, and neutralising the foul odour in the aft cabin (back section of an aircraft) before it caused discomfort to other passengers. Akshay swiftly assembled whatever resources were available and knelt down to clean the mess. “It is commendable how he managed to clean and cover the floor with the assistance of another crew member, Ms. Sreega, using disposable gloves, antiseptic, and sanitizer,” he added.
It was at this point that Mr. Malhotra lauded the SpiceJet crew for their extraordinary efforts. “We’re also immensely grateful to the passengers who stepped up to assist, showcasing extraordinary kindness and unity.” Mr. Malhotra continued.
Finding a family away from home is truly comforting, and we take pride in our cabin crew family who gracefully carry forward our legacy of compassion and warmth. @AjaySingh_SG @HingoraniKamal1Read here: https://t.co/bBRtbPNQPo#flyspicejet #spicejet #love #cabincrew #travel… pic.twitter.com/kvHYgCd7rS
