Ryanair, a budget carrier, has evolved to become Europe’s largest airline thanks to its business philosophy of delivering rock-bottom costs. The airline, now in its fourth decade, has also reached out to a new generation with its unique social media engagement and humour. The airline recently tweeted a humourous response to the Met Gala’s 2024 theme. It all began when an X page asked users who were on their dream guests list for the highly anticipated event, which this year has The Garden of Time as its theme. Ryanair, never one to pass on an opportunity, added an interesting twist.
They stated, “The 2024 Met Gala is 3 weeks away – this year’s dress code is ‘The Garden of Time.’ Who’s on your dream guest list?” In response, the airline posted an edited photo of the body of one of their planes with pink lipstick on a pair of lips and flowers and leaves. As they put it, “Born to slay, forced to fly.”

Since being shared on April 16, the post racked up 486,700 views on the social media platform. The comments section thought this clever reply was creative enough, therefore it struck the mark.

The Met Gala will be held on Monday, May 6 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This year’s dress code is The Garden of Time, in keeping with last year’s Met Gala red carpet honouring the late Karl Lagerfeld. Although it’s safe to assume that flowers will be a recurring motif on the Met Gala red carpet this year, the evocative subject provides plenty of space for attendees’ interpretations.
The museum’s Costume Institute, which houses approximately 33,000 fashion pieces from the last seven centuries, relies heavily on the exclusive annual soirée for income. The dress code is inspired by the Costume Institute’s 2024 show, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, which opens on May 10 and includes 250 items drawn from the department’s permanent collection.
Celebs, fashion designers and influential people all seek invitations to the Met Gala, which is kept a secret until the night of the event. Those who wish to acquire a $300,000 table or a $50,000 ticket must first have Wintour’s personal approval. A maximum of 450 people are allowed to attend the event.
