Ayodhya Dham Railway Station Cleaned, Contractor Fined Rs 50K After Viral Video Shows Dirty Platforms
Ayodhya Dham railway station contractor fined Rs 50,000 after videos showing dirty platforms went viral on social media.

The recently inaugurated Ayodhya Dham railway station faced public scrutiny when videos revealing the dismal state of the platforms circulated online two days ago. This led to the Railways imposing a fine of Rs. 50,000 on the station’s sanitation contractor and initiating a cleaning procedure on Friday. The official ‘X’ handle of DRM Lucknow shared the update, accompanied by photos and videos showcasing the now-sanitised station in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

It all started with an ‘X’ user, @reality5473, giving his followers a tour of the Ayodhya Dham Junction railway station inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30, 2023. He illustrated how the once pristine rail station had deteriorated in a little over two months since its inauguration.

The roads leading to the main station building were strewn with unswept garbage piled up in many corners. “Bahut gandagi hai… ekdum ajeeb sa badboo kar raha hai (It’s very dirty, and it smells weird),” remarked the OP while touring the station’s waiting room. As he proceeded to show how food packets, gutkha (tobacco) marks, and various debris had taken over the station, he expressed hope for a prompt cleanup but noted that it wouldn’t have been necessary if people had acted responsibly from the start.

Subsequently, several ‘X’ accounts with significant reach shared these videos, enhancing their popularity on the social media platform. One such repost garnered nearly 3 million views, while another caught the attention of the Northern Railway Lucknow Division, resulting in a fine for the station’s sanitation contractor.

The latest images depict the station undergoing a cleanup, with the accumulated garbage across the premises seemingly removed.

Nevertheless, this underscores the pressing need for everyone to adopt a civic sense as common as humour.

For the uninitiated, Indian Railways changed the name of Ayodhya’s railway station from “Ayodhya Junction” to “Ayodhya Dham” ahead of the Ram Mandir inauguration and the inauguration of the station’s new building by the Indian Prime Minister.
