Veteran actress Tanuja is celebrating her 81st birthday today. The special day was marked with an adorable birthday post by Tanuja’s daughters– Kajol and Tanisha Mukerji. Talking about Tanuja on her birthday, Tanisha reminisced about her childhood days and recalled how Tanuja instilled strong values in them. She described the veteran actress as a ‘typical Indian mother’ and also shared the experience of accompanying Tanuja on sets.
“She was a working single mother. It’s not easy for single mothers. They have to put food on the table and they have to take care of the baby. Luckily, for her, we lived in a joint family. We were brought up by our grandmother and great-grandmother, So we had three generations bringing us up.” Sharing about Tanuja’s ideals regarding bringing up her children, Tanishaa mentioned, “She is a typical Indian mother. She knows how to bring up her children and instil the right values. She disciplined us, as well as spoiled us. But, discipline was very important for her. Good manners, good behaviour, how to speak to people, how to behave with people, these things are very important,” Tanisha told The Indian Express.
Tanishaa Mukerji recalled watching her mother prepare for work and experiencing a sense of happiness seeing that as a child. She noted how the actress dreamed of being like her mother someday. Tanishaa also mentioned how she accompanied Tanuja on set but used to be upset as the veteran actress would mostly do sad scenes. “I used to accompany my mother on set, but I didn’t enjoy it because she used to cry in several scenes and all, and I used to get very upset,” Tanishaa said.
Kajol shared a birthday post on Instagram for her mother. “If birthdays were flowers, we would have flooded the table.. happy happy 81st aka 18 to our evergreen, crazy, beautiful goddess! Love you to the moon and back, momma,” Kajol wrote in the caption.
In the first picture, Kajol and Tanishaa posed with their mother, with all three looking gorgeous in traditional outfits. The next picture was that of Tanuja’s birthday cake, which featured a black-and-white photo of the veteran actress from her early days with the message “gorgeous as ever” inscribed on it.
