The news website has been named Wikitribune and would be funded by donations. The supporters will be asked to donate £10-15 each month to pay for a team of journalists to formulate ‘neutral and factual’ stories. The service will also depend on supporters’ regular donations and is intended to be advertisement free.

This comes at a time when Facebook and other technology majors continue to face criticism for failing to tackle the spread of fake news on their platforms.
