This Tech Brand Wants To Make A Mouse That Can Last Forever: Here’s How It Might Work
Typically people buy a mouse that lasts them for a few years after which it becomes obsolete but what if you can use it forever?

What if we tell you that a brand wants to make a forever mouse, which means you buy it once and use it for a lifetime? Well, that’s what popular accessories company Logitech is working on in its lab and the brand could have this product in the market in the not so distant future.

So what is a forever mouse and how could a company promise that the product will be up-to-date for years? The new CEO at Logitech shed some details about the device, which she says was compared to a premium watch. Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber was quoted saying in an interview on The Verge, comparing the situation of a watch and how people don’t need to throw away their perfectly-shaped mouse.

The company feels that the hardware can be upgraded regularly with the help of software updates and for these services, the one-time cost of buying the mouse won’t be enough. Faber suggests a subscription model for the ‘forever mouse’ could be the way to go.

Software Update For Mouse?

When you hear about a forever mouse, and what Faber is trying to hint, Logitech could be working on a tech that makes software updates valuable enough to improve and add new features to the mouse.

Either way, we’re eager to see how this premium mouse works out, and how much people will be ready to pay for a product that literally lasts forever. After all, the high-end products from the brand are positioned towards professionals and creators, but that is a limited and a niche market to push an innovative product.

Products That Last, Forever

The biggest challenge to make a concept like this work is to build the hardware that can be improved with software, something we have seen with smartphones over the years.

Google claims that the new Pixel phones can last for over 7 years which itself sounds like a stretch for now, but Logitech is going for the hail mary and that will need a lot of thinking and strategy at the development stage to make sure it works in the present and remains equally relevant in the future as well.
