The Pokémon Company's co-founder Tsunekaza Ishihara appeared to promote spin-off fighting game Pokkén Tournament DX for the Switch and confirmed that the GameFreak studio "has begun developing a core Pokémon title on Nintendo Switch"
"It may not release for more than a year," he advised, implying a late 2017 launch at best. There were no details about the kind of Pokémon game it would be, with prior rumours suggesting "Pokémon Stars," a remastered combination of 2016's dual releases "Pokémon Sun" and "Pokémon Moon" on the 3DS.
"Metroid Prime 4" received the briefest of logo teases during the Nintendo Spotlight compilation (youtu.be/nFbDmTjS_MI,) while a distinct and more fully formed Metroid title, "Metroid: Samus Returns," was demonstrated as part of Nintendo's later show-floor broadcast and is due September 15.
Next up was "Yoshi." Where "Yoshi's Woolly World" had its world and characters made out of yarn, "Yoshi" goes for a cardboard effect. It's a side-scrolling adventure where scenery can be knocked over and players can flip the camera's perspective horizontally to access hidden areas, and it's another one for 2018

After a successful excursion on mobile, "Fire Emblem" is preparing for another console outing in "Fire Emblem Warriors," which recasts the fantasy role-playing game as a one-against-many battlefield action game, due Fall 2017.
"The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was a critical and commercial success coinciding with March's Nintendo Switch launch and will be further sustained through its Expansion Pass with a challenge-based "The Master Trials" (June 30,) and then new side-story "The Champion's Ballad" (Holiday 2017.) Both are being made available for Switch and the older Wii U, while Nintendo is rolling out a quartet of Amiibo figurines to complement the Expansion Pass's two components.
"Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle," jointly announced during the Ubisoft conference, was given another glimpse, before grassroots success "Rocket League," a blend of RC car racing and soccer, was confirmed for Holiday 2017; it's to include cross-platform multiplayer so Switch owners can play with players on other consoles too.
Nintendo opened its "Super Mario Odyssey" video with a dinosaur and showcased the game's most novel feature, a hat that lets Mario take control of objects and creatures in the world around him -- even a hulking T-Rex -- opening up new possibilities for the 32-year-old "Super Mario" franchise.
The game will be Nintendo's big late 2017 release and has now been given an October 27 date.
