New Delhi: As part of its cross-device strategy, Microsoft has begun expanding its partnerships with leading device makers in a bid to further its services on more consumer devices.
On March 23, Microsoft formally announced that it was expanding its partnership with Samsung and under the refreshed policies, Android smartphones by the electronics giant will come pre-installed with Microsoft productivity apps and services.
Peggy Johnson, Executive Vice President, Business Development at Microsoft noted in her blog that along with the Samsung partnership, the company has also expanded its strategic agreements with leading global Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Dell, and regional OEMs including TrekStor of Germany, JP Sa Couto of Portugal, Datamatic of Italy, DEXP of Russia, Hipstreet of Canada, QMobile of Pakistan, Tecno of Africa, and Casper of Turkey, as well as top original device manufacturer Pegatron.
All of these 11 hardware partners will pre-install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype on Android devices coming to market later this year.
She further noted that roping in OEMs will increase the the value of and enrich people's experiences on Android devices as they extend Microsoft services to the ecosystem.
Reiterating that it is part of Microsoft's mobile-first, cloud-first vision, Johnson said that the deal demonstrates a major step towards their cross-platform and cross-device services strategy.
