Google Maps Finally Brings Speedometer And Speed Limits For iPhone Users
Google is bringing the speedometer update for iOS users and CarPlay access which means you can get the details while you are driving.

In a bid to enhance Google Maps on iOS devices, the company has finally rolled out the live speedometer and speed limit display on the iPhone and CarPlay globally. This feature was already introduced for Android devices in 2019. The update was expanded to more than 40 countries after being limited to select markets in May 2019.

As per reports, Google has confirmed that iPhone and CarPlay users can now benefit from speedometer and speed limit indicators. After five years of launch on Android devices, the tech giant has launched the update to help iPhone users avoid speeding while driving.

It also talked about Google Maps showing the new speeding features in India last week. On being asked about the update, the company confirmed that they will roll out the update globally.

The new feature can be spotted in Google Maps for iOS with version 6.123.0. To access this feature, iPhone and CarPlay users will have to open the Google Maps app on their iPhone. Then, tap on your profile picture and go to settings, followed by Navigation and Driving options. Upon clicking, users will be redirected to speedometer/speed limit toggles. Once enabled, the speed limits feature will be displayed as a circular floating icon in the bottom-left corner of the navigation screen while driving.

When iPhone users start navigation on Google Maps, the speed of the vehicle is shown in miles or kilometres, depending on the region. The feature will show real-time speed data, change colours on the speed indicator if the speed exceeds it, and nudge you to drive within the speed limit set in your region.

In addition to that, the Google Support page also says that if the speed limit feature is available at your location, a shortcut is available that allows the user to turn the speedometer on or off by tapping the Speed Limit icon during navigation.

Google further mentioned on a support page that the in-app speedometer shows the vehicle’s speed for “informational use only.” Therefore, car drivers should rely on their vehicle’s speedometer to confirm their actual driving speed.

Meanwhile, the tech giant is also developing new features for its Maps to facilitate group travel. This upcoming functionality will enable multiple users from various locations to reach the same destination within a specified timeframe using the navigation service.
