New Delhi: This is how you boost tourism above the sea level- provide free WiFi. Adding up to the list of popular destinations offering free WiFi, Japan’s Mt Fuji will let climbers use free Internet atop the iconic peak and give climbers another motivation to take the summit.
As part of a joint effort between Japanese telecom giant NTT Docomo and the local governments of Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures, climbers will get WiFi access at eight hotspots on the mountain, including three cottages on the summit.
A report on Gizmodo notes that the new initiative is in response to the growing number of tourists who are visiting Japan and climbing the iconic mountain.
Although Japan is one of the advanced countries in terms of technology and has the third-most internet users in the world, free WiFi is difficult to find and at times even requires pre-registering.
