Facebook tweaks News Feed based on the time you spend reading stories
Facebook has found that if people spend significantly more time on a particular story in News Feed than other stories, then it reflects the relevance of content to them.

New Delhi: In yet another attempt at improving user experience on its site, Facebook is now taking into consideration the amount of time one spends on a particular story and tweak their News Feed accordingly.

Facebook notes in its blog that the goal of News Feed is to show content that matters the most to a user. Earlier it took into account factors like what a user likes, comments, or shares on the site, to determine interest. However, as it may not always truly reflect the said interest, the site will now focus on the time you spend viewing a story in the feed.

Based on its analysis of data collected by users about their experience on the site, Facebook has found that if people spend significantly more time on a particular story in News Feed than other stories, then it reflects the relevance of content to them.

Therefore, if you like your friend’s post it might not make it to the ‘most relevant content for you’ list, but if you spend more time reading a long post by your traveler friend, even if you don’t like or comment on it, Facebook will know what you want more.
