While 2-step verification (or one-time passwords) is generally perceived by people as a full-proof method to secure online accounts but it has been proven to be vulnerable time and again. Of course, it is difficult to get pass 2-step verification, so, cyber miscreants are now trying to trick people to provide verification codes or OTPs.
Delhi Police cybersecurity wing has alerted citizens of a scam SMS which can trick people to disclose the OTP or 2-step verification code of Google accounts. The SMS is well-worded and appears to be a genuine communication from Google. However, DCP Cybercrime through its official Twitter handle has warned netizens not to fall for it. Recently, Lt. Governor Anil Baijal had announced that the Delhi Police is going to hire a chief technology officer to help the force to equip itself to meet the growing challenges of cybercrime.
