Apple has been rumoured to be working on OLED iPad Pro models for a while now, and they’re expected to replace the current M2-powered iPad Pro models. These new models are said to be redesigned, and they could cost more than the outgoing 11” and 12.9” models.
The latest on the same comes from The Elec, stating that OLED panels for Apple’s next-generation iPad Pro models will begin later this week, and the devices themselves could ship in April later this year.
The publication said that LG Display, which is making the panels alongside Samsung Display, has already started making the film transistors or TFT layers for the 13” model. Samsung, too, has reportedly also started its own process for the 11-inch variant.
The Elec said that the finished versions are set to go into mass production around March. This corroborates with what some reports have said recently. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman Bloomberg expects the new OLED iPad to hit the shelves in Spring, as soon as March. Ming-Chi Kuo, too, earlier reported that new iPad models will be released in the second quarter of 2024, which could mean April, May, or June.
Currently, iPad Pro 11″ and 12.9″ models use IPS LCD and miniLED technology, respectively. A switch to OLED is expected to enhance the overall experience but is also said to increase the costs. MacRumors reports that the new iPad Pro models could start at a whopping $1,500 and may go up to $2,000.
