New Delhi: Google's latest doodle marks the birth anniversary of English botanist and photograpgher, Anna Atkin, who is credited with publishing a book illustrated with photographic images of plants and algae for botanical studies.

Atkin used the cyanotype photographic process to create cyanotype photogram of algae. The cyanotype photogram was produced by placing the unmounted dried-algae original directly on the cyanotype paper.

These photograms first appeared in Atkin's privately self-published Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions in October 1843. The book is also considered the first book illustrated with photographic images.

The latest doodle, marking the botanist's 216th birthday, spells Google in delicate leaf pattern in slate blue against a darker blue background.
