Facebook is actively alerting its users about the best security practices to follow on the world's largest social networking service.
Facebook suggests the following three ways in which its the 1.5 billion users can keep their accounts safe.
1. Log out of unused apps
We use Facebook to log in for many other third-party services, often granting them some level of access to our accounts. It is possible that we haven't used many of those services in a long time and it is a good security practice to periodically review the apps that have access to your Facebook and revoke access if needed. You can access your app setting on Facebook from here.
2. Get login alerts
Facebook will let you know whenever your account is accessed from a new device or browser indicating at potential unauthorised access. You can set login alerts from here.
3. Protect your password
The strength of your password is more important than how often you change it, says Facebook and this is an important point to note while creating passwords.
According to Facebook, only change your password if the following tips could make it stronger:
- Don't use your Facebook password anywhere else online.
- Never share your password. You should be the only one who knows it.
- Avoid including your name or common words. Your password should be difficult to guess.
