Prithviraj Sukumaran’s much-anticipated film Aadujeevitham, globally marketed as The Goat Life, made its theatrical debut today on March 28, generating significant excitement and anticipation among fans. Directed by Blessy, the movie has reportedly made an impressive performance in pre-booking collections, even before its official release. Previously, Mohanlal’s Malaikottai Vaaliban held the record for the highest pre-release collections in Malayalam cinema this year, amassing Rs 2.65 crores. However, The Goat Life has surpassed this benchmark, securing a remarkable Rs 8.5 crores in bookings worldwide. Notably, this marks the highest pre-release collection for a film starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and ranks fourth in the all-time top 5 in bookings.
However, despite its success, The Goat Life has not been released in any Arab countries except the UAE. Given that Arab countries constitute a significant market for Malayalam cinema internationally, the non-release of the film in 80 per cent of these countries is viewed as a setback for its global reach.
In terms of first-day collections in Malayalam cinema, Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea leads the pack with Rs 20.40 crores. Other notable entries in the top 5 include Mohanlal’s Odiyan and Lucifer, along with Dulquer Salman’s King of Kotha. It remains to be seen whether The Goat Life can secure its position among the top 5 grossers in Malayalam cinema.
At a recent promotional event for the Bollywood film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, where Prithviraj Sukumaran portrays the main antagonist, Akshay Kumar expressed his admiration for the trailer of The Goat Life and encouraged his fans to watch it. He even went as far as to praise Prithviraj’s acting prowess, considering him a better actor than himself.
Based on the best-selling novel Aadujeevitham by Benyamin, the film depicts the story of a man from Kerala who, as an immigrant labourer, finds himself ensnared in slavery as a goatherd on a secluded farm in Saudi Arabia.
