Lucknow: Each of the 128,112 polling stations in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections will have at least one telecommunication facility to ensure prompt and direct connectivity with voting officials, India's poll panel chief said in Lucknow on Thursday.
"We have taken some special measures to curb cross-border movement of people, which in the past has been the cause of trouble during polling in areas along inter-state borders," Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami told the media.
"The polling in all border areas would now be held simultaneously," he added.
Gopalaswami explained that voting in border areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar will take place simultaneously.
Polling in border areas of southern Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will be held on the same day and western Uttar Pradesh with parts of Haryana and Rajasthan, he added.
The CEC declined to divulge details of security in Maoist insurgency affected areas. "We will be able to manage the show," he assured.
