Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party has accused the Bharatiya Janta Party-led government in Uttar Pradesh of double standards for slapping the National Security Act against the accused involved in the Ghazipur mob violence but not using the same yardstick in case of the Bulandshahr violence.
Akhilesh Yadav-led party alleged that the accused involved in the murder of a police inspector in Bulandshahr was not charged under the NSA because of his connections to the ruling party.
Earlier this month Inspector Subodh Kumar was killed by a mob in UP’s Bulandshahr. The accused were allegedly members of the BJP Yuva Morcha, the VHP and the Bajrang Dal.
Almost a month later, head constable Suresh Vats was killed when members of the Rashtriya Nishad Party hurled stones at vehicles returning from the venue of a public meeting addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The Bulandshahr violence which shook the entire country was clearly committed by the people who were associated to the ruling party. The police and administration were also not ready to take the name of Bajrang Dal in Bulandshahr case while in Ghazipur the police officials are naming the Nishad Party. It shows double standards adopted by the Yogi Adityanath government in the cases which are of similar nature,” SP Spokesperson Abdul Hafiz Gandhi told News18.
However, Atul Kumar Srivastava, Superintendent, Bulandshahr City, dismissed the allegations.
“Till now we have sent 30 people to jail under various sections of the IPC. We have not slapped NSA on anyone at present; however, we will evaluate the evidence against all the culprits and then we will decide if the NSA has to be slapped against them,” he said.
On the other hand ADG Varanasi, PV Ramashastri speaking on the Ghazipur incident on December 30 had said, “FIR was registered against 32 named people and 70 to 80 unnamed people in the case. Till now based on the evidence 11 people have been arrested. Those who will be found guilty fill face strict action based on the evidence and proposal will also be sent to the District Magistrate to slap NSA the main accused people.”
Meanwhile, BJP Spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi blamed the SP leaders for discounting the UP government’s announcement about charging the accused of the Bulandshahr case under NSA act.
“There is a due process which is followed for slapping the NSA and it takes some time. The BJP doesn’t advocate slapping the NSA on anyone for political reasons like Akhilesh Yadav,” he said, recalling the time when the SP Chief had slapped the NSA against two BJP leaders Sangeet Som and Suresh Rana.
