MNS's women wing has sought introduction of Maharashtrian cuisine in hotel management courses.

Mumbai: After propagating use of Marathi in the state, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has taken on the task of popularising Maharashtrian cuisine. MNS's women wing has sought introduction of Maharashtrian cuisine in hotel management courses.

"Maharashtrian cuisine does not only mean Pithala-Bhakri, Zunka-Bhakar, Wada-Pav, Misal Pav and the odd Usal. The culture of Maharashtra which reveals itself in many ways has not yet been reflected properly in terms of offering its authentic cuisine," MNS women's wing leader Shalini Thackeray said on Thursday.

"Not just city-based restaurants and hotels, but the great Maharastrian cuisine has yet to seek entry into hotel management institutes which otherwise train its students in preparing food of states other than Maharashtra," she said.

The wing has written to the city-based hotel management institutes about including Maharashtrian cuisine in their course curriculum, she said.

It has also criticised hotel management institutes for including cuisines from states other than Maharashtra.

"Besides teaching the students to prepare Indian cuisine comprising Punjabi, Moglai and South Indian dishes, these catering colleges also impart training in international cuisine such as Chinese, Mexican, Italian and Thai. However, the institutes have failed to impart training in Maharashtrian cuisine," she rued
