Bangalore: The 25th Southern Zonal Council meeting to be chaired by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in Bangalore on Friday will discuss wide ranging issues relating to Police administration, atrocities on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes vis-a-vis human trafficking. The meeting is expected to be attended by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Kiran Reddy. Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangaswamy, Kerala Minister for Finance K Mani and two Ministers from Tamil Nadu will also be participating, official sources said.
Karnataka Minister for Law S Suresh Kumar and Minsiter for Kannda and Culture Govind Karjol are also attending, official sources said. The meeting would review the progress of implementation on the recommendations of its earlier meetings held at Puducherry and Hyderabad. The agenda of the meeting includes the need for maintaining status quo ante in respect of formula for Central Allocation of funds under Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development Programmes, issues relating to fisheries, especially of the security of the fishermen, need to strengthen the Drugs Control Organisation in the Southern States.
Peninsular Region Industrial Development Corridor, Extension of High Speed Rail Corridor between Mangalore and Udupi, Introduction of Peninsular Tourism Trains in Southern Zone, Problem of Coastal Erosion and Supply of building materials from approved quarries of Tamil Nadu are the subjects scheduled to come up for discussion. The Ministry of Home Affairs will also review matters relating to Police Administration in the States, Atrocities on Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes vis-a-vis Human Trafficking, according to sources.
