Rajnath Singh to Chair BJP's Manifesto Committee; Bike Rally Committee Among 17 For LS Polls

New Delhi: BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday named Home Minister Rajnath Singh as the head of 20-member ‘sankalp patra’ (manifesto) committee and also formed a total of 17 committees to begin the saffron party’s poll preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Union ministers Arun jaitley, Nirmala Sitharaman, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Piyush Goyal, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan are the other members of the committee tasked with preparing the party's manifesto, a statement said.

Arun Jaitley will head the publicity department and will be assisted by Rajyavarthan Rathore, Piyush Goyal, Anil Jain, Mahesh Sharma, among others.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari will head a committee which will reach out to social and volunteer organisations while his Cabinet colleague Sushma Swaraj will head a group that will produce literature for the polls, it added. Swaraj will be assisted by Parbhat Jha, Mahesh Sharma, Anurag Thakur, Amit Malviya, Sudhandshu Trivedi, among others.

Two 13-member teams will look after media and social media respectively. Ravi Shankar Prasad will look after the media while Shyam Jaju will be in charge of social media.

Union minister Prakash Javadekar will lead the wing which will organise meetings of intellectuals. He will be supported by Meenakshi Lekhi, Sambit Patra and Murlidhar Rao.

Curiously, the BJP also has a three-member ‘Bike Rally Committee’. It will feature Sanjiv Chaurasia, Pradeep Singh Baghela and Saurabh Chaudhary. The details and functions of the committee are yet to be spelt out.

There's also a committee for 'Mann ki baat' headed by Arun Singh.

The Lok Sabha polls are expected to be held in April-May with the BJP under Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking re-election.
