New Delhi: In an effort to reach out to a bigger audience on FDI issue, the government has decided to translate Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's September 21 Address to the Nation in over 20 languages and publish it in newspapers across the country.
The Department of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) under the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has been given the task of translating the televised Address, sources said.
In his Address, the Prime Minister had justified the recent decisions on FDI and diesel price hike and said the time has come for "hard decisions".
He had asked the countrymen not to be misled by those trying to confuse them by spreading fear like in 1991 when economic reforms were unleashed during his tenure as Finance Minister.
Singh had insisted that the concerns over allowing FDI in retail were "baseless" as there is enough scope for big and small retailers to grow.
"While the Prime Minister had in his speech explained the logic behind these decisions, it is important that the message is taken to each and every citizen. So it was felt that the message would be translated into languages spoken in different parts of the country and then taken to the people," said a source.
The decision of the government came against the backdrop of the nationwide agitations organised by opposition parties on September 20.
