While Amar Singh got bail, the courts reserved their orders for Kanimozhi and Yeddyurappa in corruption cases.

New Delhi: While one gets lucky to celebrate Diwali at home, the other two high-profile politicians facing allegations of involvement in corruption cases will have to spend the 'Festival of Lights' behind bars.

Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh, who is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, was granted bail in the 2008 cash-for-vote case on 'humanitarian grounds'. DMK MP Kanimozhi and former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa will have to wait for another day and witness a dark Diwali this year.

Three cases of three high-profile personalities in various cases of graft- Amar Singh for the 2008 cash-for-votes scandal, Kanimozhi and six others for the 2G spectrum allotment scam and Yeddyurappa for land deals - came up for hearing on Monday.

While an ailing Amar Singh got reprieve due to his critical condition, a CBI court reserved its bail orders in the 2G case till November 3. The Karnataka High Court put off Yeddyurappa's plea till October 28.

2G: Kanimozhi, 6 others to spend Diwali in jail

The court of Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge OP Saini reserved its order on Kanimozhi's bail application till November 3. The court was hearing the bail application of Kanimozhi along with Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, Cineyug Films' founder Karim Morani, and Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables Chief Executives Asif Balwa and Rajiv Agarwal.

The order on the bail applications of Kumar, Balwa, Agarwal and Morani has also been reserved till November 3.

While replying to Kanimozhi's lawyer Altaf Ahmad argument, the CBI told the court that it did not want to oppose the bail to Kanimozhi in the 2G case.

CBI prosecutor UU Lalit told the Special CBI Court that the investigating agency had no objection in granting bail to Kanimozhi, Kalaignar TV MD Sharad Kumar, Cineyug Films' founder Karim Morani, and Kusegaon Fruits and Vegetables

Chief Executives Asif Balwa and Rajiv Agarwal.

However, the CBI opposed the the bail application of DB Realty promoter Shahid Balwa and former telecom minister A Raja's former private secretary RK Chandolia.

Earlier, arguing strongly for bail, Ahmad told the court that the investigations into the 2G spectrum allocation case were over and charges framed, so there was no question of tampering with evidence and the custody of the accused was not required.

Ahmad also said that the court could impose heavy conditions if it wanted for granting bail and can ask that the accused be available whenever asked to appear.

Kanimozhi has been charged for accepting bribes, criminal conspiracy to cheat the exchequer and criminal breach of trust and has been in Tihar Jail since May 2011.

Yeddyurappa's bail plea deferred to October 28

The hearing of former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa's bail plea was on Monday adjourned till October 28.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had withdrawn his interim bail plea and then applied for regular bail.

His counsel had on Friday sought a three-day bail so that Yeddyurappa could spend Diwali with his family at home.

The BJP leader's plea was opposed on the ground that he could influence key witnesses.

The Lokayukta court had on Saturday extended Yeddyurappa's custody till November 3.

Yeddyurappa was earlier admitted in two hospitals after his arrest, following which he moved to the jail.

There were reports that he was upset with senior BJP leader L K Advani over his comment on corruption in the party and that was the main reason he wanted to shift to jail despite his poor health.

Cash-for-votes: Amar Singh gets bail on medical grounds

The Delhi High Court on Monday granted bail to former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh's in the cash-for-votes scam on humanitarian grounds. The court had on Wednesday reserved its order on Singh's bail plea.

But the court restrained Amar Singh from travelling abroad and asked him to deposit his passport with the court. The court also asked Singh to furnish two sureties of Rs 50 lakh each.

Amar Singh's lawyer argued that his medical condition required constant monitoring and may be a visit to his doctor in Singapore where the MP had undergone renal transplant.

He has been suffering from UTI, increase serum creatinine, vitamin B12 deficiency and increased TSH. His medical report by All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) had said that he had developed severe abdominal pain and was prone to infection as he had undergone renal transplant.

The Additional Solicitor General said that the AIIMS medical report cannot be disputed. He added that the investigations into the cash-for-votes case were complete and a chargesheet had been filed.

Singh is currently a Rajya Sabha MP.

Senior Samajwadi Party leader Rewati Raman Singh has also moved the Delhi High Court after the trial court summoned him, brushing aside the Delhi Police's clean chit in connection with the scam.
