Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held his first official meeting on Wednesday.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held his first official meeting on Wednesday almost five weeks after his by-pass heart surgery.

Manmohan met Benin's President Boni Yayi on Wednesday morning at his 7 Race Course Road residence in New Delhi. He is expected to sign agreements with Yayi to institutionalise bilateral cooperation.

Manmohan was discharged from the All India Institute of Management Sciences (AIIMS) on February 1 after he underwent a coronary by-pass surgery on January 24.

He had reportedly been seeing files at his home ever since, but this is the first time he's being seen at work after the surgery.

In his absence, External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was looking after the responsibilities being shouldered by Manmohan.

With the Lok Sabha elections schedule announced, the Congress will need Manmohan for the month-long campaign.

The party has already made it clear that Manmohan would be the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance's prime ministerial candidate.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in five phases from April 16 to May 13 while the counting of votes would be done on May 16.
