LS Election Results: Congress Asks Its Workers To 'Stay Vigilant'; BJP Alleges Oppn Wants To Disrupt Counting
Congress leaders, including its chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, asked its workers to stay alert on the results day

After six weeks of voting that took place in seven phases across the country, India will finally find out the results of the Lok Sabha Election 2024 tomorrow, June 4. However, with just a few hours left for the results to be announced, a massive faceoff between the BJP and the Congress erupted on Monday after the grand old party asked its workers to gather in large numbers at various district and state party offices.

After Congress leaders, including its chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, asked its workers to stay alert on the results day, the BJP attacked the party stating that its instruction to its workers reads like a “manual to riot”. A Congress party statement is going viral on social media, where the party has ordered its prabharis to make appropriate arrangements for the workers.

Launching a scathing attack on the grand old party, BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya took to X and wrote, “Congress party’s instruction to its workers’ reads like a manual to riot. There is absolutely no merit in asking people to assembly in state and district offices because counting happens in a designated secure zone for each Lok Sabha unless the idea is to unleash mobs and disrupt the process.”

Congress Asks Workers To ‘Stay Alert’

“Stay alert and put in place measures to check any attempts of rigging on vote counting day,” Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi told the party’s Lok Sabha poll candidates on Sunday, news agency PTI reported.

Reportedly, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi interacted with Congress candidates during a virtual meeting which was also attended by party general secretaries Jairam Ramesh and K C Venugopal, legislative party leaders and state unit chiefs to review preparations for June 4, the day when votes of the seven-phase Lok Sabha polls will be counted.

“Recently, we all saw that BJP leaders and their government are ignoring democracy and violates the limits of the Constitution. So tomorrow, at the time of counting of votes, we need to be alert. Instead of sitting in the room and watching the results on news channels, all the Congress workers should be called to the district and state Congress offices,” Congress’ official statement to its workers read.

Further instructing its Prabharis to make arrangements, the letter read, “Make sure that there are adequate arrangements for the workers in the Congress headquarters. Whenever needed, an arrangement should be there to send the workers immediately.”

In addition to this, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has also asked counting agents to remain alert and vigilant at the counting centres. “Tell all counting agents to remain alert. Ask them to match the EVM machine number,” he said, adding, “If there is even a slight difference in the number of votes, we will immediately raise an objection and ask for recounting of that machine.”

Bhupesh Baghel Questions EC

Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and Rajnandgaon candidate, Bhupesh Bhagel, on Sunday questioned said that the Election Commission has given the numbers of the machines used in the elections, including information on ballot unit, control unit and VVPAT.

“According to the information given in Form 17C after the voting in my constituency Rajnandgaon, the numbers of many machines have changed. The booths where the numbers have been changed affect thousands of votes. Similar complaints have been received from many other Lok Sabha constituencies. We are complaining to the State Election Officer. @ECISVEEP should answer under what circumstances the machines were changed and who will be responsible for any impact on the election result?” he questioned in a social media post.

Replying to Baghel’s allegations, the poll body said that the alleged mismatch in EVM numbers shared with the INC candidate of Rajnandgaon PC is not based on facts.

BJP Alleges Congress Planning To Create Chaos

Responding to the Congress’ instruction to its workers, BJP on Monday reacted strongly and said that the party is trying to cause disruption during the counting of votes as they are losing the Lok Sabha polls. The saffron party further accused the Congress of wanting to undermine the country’s democratic values and create negative headlines against India at the global stage.

“It is obvious that Congress is planning to disrupt & create utter chaos on counting day – sort of like a very own “Capitol Hill” insurrection? This is for two reasons: 1) They are losing 2) They want to undermine our democratic traditions and give a negative headline internationally about Bharat This is the lowest Congress could stoop too,” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala added.

“Why on earth all these preparations? Is it for celebration for the few seats that they may win or some sinister motive??” BJP National General Secretary (Org) BL Santhosh said.
