When one enters Kalyan Bigha village in Bihar's Nalanda district, one can from far away see Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's house. While every house in the village has almost 24 hours of electricity, Nitish's house is left unlit.
In a quest to find an answer to this, News18 met Sitaram, the caretaker of the house. He said, “Nitish has promised that he won’t take electricity connection till every house of Bihar get power supply.
"Nitish visits this place whenever he gets some time. He manages to visit his native three to four times in a year,” said Sitaram, who brought up Nitish in his childhood.
Speaking to News18, Sitaram said, "Entire village is supporting Nitish Kumar. Even I am sure that he will be sworn in as Bihar CM for the third time in a row."
When asked about alliance with Rashtriya Janata Dal chied Lalu Prasad Yadav, Sitaram looked a little uncomfortable. However, he said, "When Nitish became Chief Minister for the first time, the crime graph was soaring high. He didn’t use pistol to control murder, kidnapping and robbery. He just armed administration and everything was in place automatically. You can see the better law and order situation now.
"Just like a criminal turns good man after coming in touch with saint, Lalu will also change under the leadership of Nitish," Sitaram added.
Though the village has 24 hours electricity supply, a shooting range, schools and hospital, Dalits in the region are a bit disappointed. According to one Sangeeta Devi, would be better if Nitish can fix a handpump in front of her house.
