Thiruvananthapuram: A contractor in Kerala, who built the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies, has sent a legal notice to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and a few other Congress leaders for non payment of dues. The contractor Heather Constructions managing director Rajeev also filed a Rs 50 lakh recovery suit against Sonia.
The other leaders who have been named in the legal notice include Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies Chairman Ramesh Chennithala, former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy and Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president VM Sudheeran.
According to party insiders the dues were not cleared because of an intra party feud in the Kerala unit of the Congress.
According to Rajeev, his company was given the contract to construct the institute in Thiruvananthapuram but the dues were not cleared.
Now, KPCC says it has no money for the project which was cleared by former state unit president Chennithala during his tenure.
But the current KPCC chief says the party does not have the money and there is no need for the institute.
Sonia, who had inaugurated the institute in October 2005, had asked KPCC to settle the dues after the company sent a legal notice. But there company claims that it did not receive any money.
