New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday met Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss all issues related to the jurisdiction battle between him and the Lieutenant Governor. It's been over a month that bitter war of words broke between Kejriwal and Jung over appointment of bureaucrats and with both sides refusing to budge down.
The turf war began with the appointment of IAS officer Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting Delhi Chief Secretary with both the Chief Minister and the Centre approaching courts. In a big relief for the Centre, the Delhi High Court ruled that the Lt Governor is the constitutional authority in the national capital.
But the rift only deepened between the two with both the sides advocating supremacy of their authority on appointing bureaucrats. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia criticised Jung’s order to appointment Joint Commissioner MK Meena as the head of the Anti-Corruption Bureau. Sisodia alleged a conspiracy behind the move and questioned the hurry to appoint Meena.
Hardening its position, the Delhi government is now planning to ask Lt Governor-appointed Home Secretary Dharam Pal to immediately relinquish his post and vacate his office and threatened to take action if he does not follow the order.
Sources said that Delhi Home Minister Satyendra Jain has written a letter, which may be sent to Dharam Pal on Monday, in this regard.
In the letter, Jain has said that Pal must vacate his office on the fifth floor of Delhi Secretariat as he was "unauthorisedly" occupying it, they said.
The AAP government recently removed Pal as Home Secretary for notifying the appointment of MK Meena as chief of Delhi's ACB which was done on the orders of Jung.
