New Delhi: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday hailed the victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi saying that India will now get the much-awaited stable government.
"The country will get a stable government. A phase of change is about to begin," Bhaiiyaji Joshi, the RSS general secretary, said.
The BJP stormed to power on Friday, routing its nearest rival the Congress. This was the worst decimation the Congress had faced and the biggest victory the BJP had seen.
The party, which till now was the principal opposition, is leading in 279 of 543 Parliamentary seats, way beyond the halfway mark of 272 seats. It's coalition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading in 329 seats. At this rate, the BJP won't have any need for more allies either.
However, the BJP has said that its doors are open to whoever wishes to join it. At a press conference on Friday afternoon, BJP president Rajnath Singh said, "We need allies to build our country. We will welcome whoever wishes to join us."
The Modi-tsunami, no it cannot be called a 'wave' anymore, completely destroyed the two regional satraps of Uttar Pradesh - Mulayam Singh Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party.
"The people of India - irrespective of the caste, creed, religion, economic background - have given a decisive mandate for the BJP. I believe this is primarily due to Modi's popularity," Rajnath Singh said.
The party, however, failed to open its account in Kerala, and did not register major gains in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Odisha - where the ruling parties won most of the seats.
