Great personalities of India have been "ignored" in the history written under the "influence of foreigners", Home Minister Rajnath Singh said.

Lucknow: Great personalities of India have been "ignored" in the history written under the "influence of foreigners", Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday and asked historians to conduct research on such personalities to ensure a proper place for them in the history.

"The history has been written under influence of foreigners..In it, great personalities and persons, who fought for protecting Indian culture and gave up everything for the sake of society, were ignored," Singh said.

"The historians of the country should come forward and do research on such personalities and persons to ensure them honourable and due place in history. It will help future generations to take encouragement from them and their lives," he added.

Singh, woh addressing a programme in Lucknow to commemorate Maharaja Suheldev's victory over Mahmood Gaznavi's nephew Sayed Salaar Masood, did not, however, name any such great personality who has been ignored.

The Home Minister also made a veiled attack on parties dabbling in caste politics using names of great personalities.

"Great personalities do not belong to any particular caste and should not be associated or known by their caste. They are source of encouragement and belong to the entire country," he said but did not name any party.

Stressing the need for unity for development of the country, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working on it and the government was trying to ensure that no section remained deprived.

"The motto of our government is everyone should progress and develop," the Home Minister said.
