Bangaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will hold a meeting with former Chief Ministers and former Ministers for Water Resources on Thursday to discuss various water projects in the state. The meeting is expected to focus on the recent Mekedattu project and the leaders will take decisions on the further course of action to be taken on the Mahadayi dispute.

The meeting which will take place in the Vidhana Souda, will see the participation of Former Chief Ministers Veerappa Moily, SM Krishna, BS Yedyurappa, Sadananda Gowda, Jagdish Shettar and Siddaramaiah. Former Ministers for Water Resources MB Patil, HK Patil, Basavraj Bommayi, KS Eshwarappa and Mallikarjun Kharge are also expected to be present. On November 27, the Central Water Commission had given its nod to the pre-feasibility report of the Mekedattu project. The commission further gave permission to Karnataka to prepare a detailed project report, much against the opposition of neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

The Tamil Nadu government has also approached the Supreme Court against this approval and Chief Minister Edapadi Palanisamy wrote to PM Narendra Modi requesting to direct the Central Water Commission to withdraw the permission granted to Karnataka government.
