New Delhi: As the decision to hike petrol prices by Rs 7.50 per litre went public, it evoked sharp reactions from the opposition parties. While the Bharatiya Janata Party said that it was a cheating with the public, the Left parties termed it as a disastrous decision.
Speaking to CNN-IBN, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said that the government was cheating the public, as the decision was taken just a day after Parliament session got over.
Later, party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain slammed the move pointing that petrol prices had never been hiked in such steep manner.
Meanwhile, Left leader Gurudas Dasgupta said that the decision was a disastrous one that would push inflation.
"The government is moving opposite to what is needed…we will protest against this hike," said Dasgupta.
He further said, "The government hiked the price after Parliament ended, this is a mischievous decision."
