Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Rai has stepped down as the Delhi Transport Minister post amid allegations of corruption against him in the premium bus SVC scheme. Rai has cited ill health as the reason of his resignation. However, he has retained the charge of Irrigation and Labour Ministry.
Public Works Department and Health Minister Satyendra Jain will be taking charge of the Transport Ministry.
Rai had on Monday claimed that all allegations against him were baseless. "No corruption took place in this scheme. The decision to notify the scheme was taken after several rounds of meetings and agenda was tabled before the cabinet after proper discussion," Rai had said on Monday.
The Delhi government during the second phase of the odd-even scheme had in April announced the premium bus service would be made operational from mid-June.
"I want to challenge Modi government, CBI and ACB to prove corruption in bus aggregator scheme and I am ready to stay in Tihar. They cannot prove corruption of single paise. Central government is trying to paralyse premium bus service scheme. Anti corruption branch is unnecessarily troubling our officers," Rai added.
In his complaint to the ACB, BJP MLA and Opposition leader in the Assembly, Vijender Gupta said the Lieutenant Governor had not given his approval to the scheme as claimed in the Delhi government notification.
