Gadkari asks MNS not to contest LS polls in Maharashtra: Sources
Even though MNS did not win any seat in 2009 elections, it split the BJP-Shiv Sena votes in nine constituencies.

Mumbai: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party is making every possible move to garner as many votes to form a government at the Centre. Former BJP president Nitin Gadkari has even made an appeal to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray not to contest Lok Sabha polls, said sources.

Even though MNS did not win any seat in 2009 elections, it split the BJP-Shiv Sena votes in nine constituencies.

The city BJP chief Ashish Shelar, however, rubbished the reports of a secret meeting between Gadkari and Thackeray at a five-star hotel in Mumbai on Monday.

"Let me put to rest the irresponsible speculation. No secret meetings happening between BJP and MNS," Shelar said on Twitter.

Some Marathi news-channels reported in the morning that Gadkari and Thackeray, who are known to enjoy a good rapport, were in a secret meeting at a five-star hotel, where Shelar too was present.

Last month Gadkari attended the ground-breaking ceremony of Goda Park, a riverbank beautification project of Nashik Municipal Corporation where MNS is in power with the BJP's support.
