Mumbai: Union Agriculture Minister and NCP president Sharad Pawar on Saturday said India and China can take advantage of the financial crisis in other parts of the world by increasing their production.
Pointing out that the investment climate in the country had been affected, Pawar said steps needed to be taken to encourage foreign investments in the country.
"Foreign investment should be encouraged. Our strength to increase production should be enhanced and overall financial strength should also be stepped up," Pawar said on the sidelines of a party programme.
Pawar said that since there was a paucity of funds to carry out development works, subsidies needed to be reduced.
"Tough decisions need to be taken, be it on the national or on state level. Sometimes, criticisms are made. But criticism comes only when decisions are taken," the Union Minister said.
