Chennithala may be given charge of additional ministry, party sources said.

New Delhi: A possible end to the deadlock in the Congress unit of Kerala is in sight with Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy indicating that he is willing to make his arch-rival and PCC Chief Ramesh Chennithala the deputy CM. The breakthrough was achieved after Congress president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel held late night meetings with the ministers in his house.

Chandy, who was in Delhi for a second time this week, said that he was willing to offer Chennithala the deputy CM portfolio. Chennithala may be given charge of additional ministry, party sources said.

But a final decision is likely to be taken by the Congress high command. A final decision will be taken after consultations with key allies like the Muslim League and Kerala Congress.

Oommen Chandy is desperate to end the crisis in his government which is already facing the heat over the solar scam. The chief minister and the state Congress chief may address a joint press conference after meeting Sonia Gandhi on Friday.

Chennithala is reluctant to join the Oommen Chandy-led government which has come under cloud over the solar panel scam. The leader reportedly briefed the Congress chief over the crisis that has gripped the party and the Congress-led UDF government in wake of the scandal during an hour-long meeting on Thursday.
