Congress Supports Muslim Personal Law, But...: In Himachal, PM Modi Attacks Oppn For Opposing UCC
While addressing a public gathering in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, PM Modi said that the Congress supports Sharia in the name of Muslim Personal Law

Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Congress on Friday for extending their support to Islamic law Sharia under the guise of the Muslim Personal law.

He also pressed on the need to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), a common set of laws that would cover customary laws across faiths and govern issues such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, and maintenance.

While addressing a public gathering in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, PM Modi said, “Modi has pledged to a Uniform Civil Code. Indian citizens, whether they are Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian or Buddhist, should have uniform civil laws. But Congress is opposing the Uniform Civil Code. Congress supports Sharia in the name of Muslim Personal Law.”

Modi also said Kangana Ranaut, the BJP candidate from the Mandi constituency, represents the aspirations of youngsters and “our daughters”.

He urged the electorate to give a befitting reply to the Congress for making derogatory statements against the actor that he described as an insult to Mandi and Himachal Pradesh.

“Kangana will become your voice and work for the development of Mandi,” he added.

The Prime Minister also accused the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh of selectively distributing central aid meant for victims of last year’s floods and promised to find out where the money went once he returns to power.

Addressing a poll rally in Mandi, the prime minister also called Himachal Pradesh the “sankalp bhumi” for construction of the Ram mandir in Ayodhya, referring to the pledge taken by the BJP in Palampur to build the temple.
