The version of the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill introduced by the previous UPA government has been withdrawn.
New Delhi: The Judicial Appointments Bill is likely be tabled in Parliament as early as Monday. The version of the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill introduced by the previous UPA government has been withdrawn.
The Congress seems to be isolated on the issue now. Congress leader Anand Sharma opposed the Bill being withdrawn saying only the amendments should be considered.
But the Bharatiya Janata Party has got the support of several parties, including the Left, AIADMK and Samajwadi Party. In fact, the SP has told the Congress not to oppose the Bill.
"We need to debate judicial reforms. The government of India is committed to all infrastructural development. But we need to work collectively," said Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
