Cong takes dig at MK over his poem for LTTE leader
AICC tells DMK that Congressmen are hurt by its praise for the LTTE.

New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday told its southern ally DMK in no uncertain terms that it's not too happy with the latter's praise for slain LTTE leader Thamilselvam.

In a resolution adopted at the one-day AICC session at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on Friday, the party said the sentiments of the Congressmen are bound to get hurt if the LTTE is 'eulogised in any manner'.

The party, however, avoided directly mentioning Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanaidhi in the resolution.

Yet, the resolution was seen as a dig at Karunanidhi, whose DMK party is a major partner of the Congress-led ruling UPA coalition at the Centre.

Karunanidhi had penned a poem eulogising Thamilselvam a few days after he was killed in an operation by Sri Lankan security forces.

"The LTTE, categorised internationally as a terrorist outfit, deliberately assassinated our beloved leader in a brutal manner. The sentiments of all Congressmen and women especially are bound to get hurt if the LTTE is eulogised in any manner," the AICC resolution read .

Noting that peace and an internal constitutional settlement acceptable to all communities within the framework of a united Sri Lanka had still not been achieved, the resolution said the Congress-led UPA government's efforts towards this end should continue.
