New Delhi: With the Left making it clear that they will oppose any attempt to hike oil prices, a core group of the Congress is likely to meet on Monday to discuss the issue.
Later in the day, other UPA allies are also expected to meet on the same issue.
A Group of Ministers headed by foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee has already been taking stock of the rising fuel prices in the international market but has failed to come to any conclusion.
On Sunday, the CPM had warned the UPA against increase in petroleum prices.
"There should be no hike in fuel prices. It would only add to the burden of the common people. If the government goes ahead with a hike in fuel prices, we will launch a people's movement to oppose the same on a wider platform comprising prospective constituents of the Third Alternative," he said adding that the government should also revise the taxation structure,” CPM General Secretary Prakash Karat had said.
