BJP to hold Dalit rally in Gandhinagar
BJP will organise a rally to protest a Cong MLA's remark that said Ambedkar Bhavans in Gujarat looked like "graveyards".

New Delhi: Coming out strongly against a Congress MLA's remark that Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavans in Gujarat looked like “graveyards”, BJP’s Dalit cell in Gujarat said it will organise a massive rally of Dalits in Gandhinagar on Thursday.

“Congress has hurt Dalits sentiments by comparing the Bhavans with graveyards and that it should apologise to the people,” BJP's Schedule Caste cell president Atmaram Parmar was quoted by PTI as saying.

Parmar said that about 25,000 Dalits are expected to gather in Gandhinagar to will take out a procession.

BJP Dalit unit described the remark as an insult of Ambedkar by Congress MLA Pravin Maru. In this incident, Maru, himself a Dalit, had described the condition of Ambedkar bhavans in the state like graveyards.

Maru’s remark that “instead of building such bhavans, the state government should have built homes for Dalits,” landed him into the controversy.

His statement created a furore in the House and BJP MLAs demanded that Maru and the Congress should apologise for such a comparison.
