BJP daydreams of coming to power, says Sonia Gandhi
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying its leaders dream of coming to power even "during the day".

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying its leaders dream of coming to power even "during the day".

"You must be knowing that BJP leaders nowadays dream of occupying the chair during the day also. They are so full of greed for the chair that they are even trying to denigrate each other," Gandhi said while addressing a rally here.

She said the Congress has never compromised on its principles for coming to power and will never do so. The Congress president said: "If they feel that they can win over people's hearts by just talking, then they are mistaken."

"They have just been making promises and misleading you (the public)," Gandhi said. Attacking the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, she said no action has been taken against corrupt officers who have been named by the state Lokayukta.

"There is not even drinking water in the state. If you want water and seeds, then you have to go to the shops of BJP leaders," she alleged.

Gandhi said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has brought in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act to provide employment in rural areas.

She said BJP leaders had been making false promises. "I want to tell them that stomachs are not filled by mere words. They must stop making false promises and must work hard, sincerely and with commitment, for the welfare of the people and development of the state", she said.

The Congress president also accused BJP of failing to understand country's ethos.

"India is a concept; it is a vision. India means compassion, brotherhood, kindness, love and affection. BJP never understood this and will never realise it. They even make friends turn into enemies for their narrow gains. You must be careful of this," she said.

Gandhi said a wind of change was blowing in Madhya Pradesh. "I want you to contribute actively to the same," she said.

She accused the BJP government of not implementing pro-people welfare schemes of the UPA government.

"The BJP government made several lucrative promises but could not fulfil those in all these years. The state government here failed to implement several welfare schemes initiated by the central government," she said.

Gandhi also accused the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government of misusing funds sent by the central government.

"Where have all these funds vanished? You must ask the state government, you must get an answer from the BJP government," she said.

"If the Congress comes to power in Madhya Pradesh, you will witness a sea of change in development and we will work for the uplift of the poor and the downtrodden. We will deliver on our promises made in our election manifesto," she assured.

She said the Congress never makes hollow promises. "We do what we say. I, therefore, request all of you not to fall in the traps of false promises made by our opponents," she said.
