Meanwhile, a Congress spokesperson said the party is not aware of any fake video and “it must have been shared in his personal capacity”.
The case pertains to the alleged videos involving Union Home Minister Shah, in which his statements on abolishing quota on religious grounds were misinterpreted and edited to make it seem that he was advocating scrapping all reservations. He delivered the speech during a poll rally in Telangana.
However, in reality, the BJP leader had reiterated his party’s commitment to abolish the quota for Muslims on religious grounds.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police asked Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to join the probe on May 1 concerning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s doctored video being circulated.
The Special Cell of the Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR after the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) filed a complaint about the doctored video of Shah.
The action came a day after BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that the Telangana Congress wing was spreading an edited video of Shah, “which is completely fake and has the potential to cause large-scale violence.”
The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act, they said. The sources in the Special Cell said that now arrests are likely to follow across the country.
