Assam Congress Worker Arrested for Sharing Doctored Video of Amit Shah Calling for Reservation Abolishment
The case pertains to the alleged videos involving Union Home Minister Shah, in which his statements on abolishing quota on religious grounds were misinterpreted and edited

Assam Police arrested a man in connection with the fake ‘ending reservation’ video involving Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Reetom Singh and he is reportedly the War Room Coordinator of the Assam Congress unit, the police said. He is charged with posting edited videos and abusive content on social media.

Meanwhile, a Congress spokesperson said the party is not aware of any fake video and “it must have been shared in his personal capacity”.

The case pertains to the alleged videos involving Union Home Minister Shah, in which his statements on abolishing quota on religious grounds were misinterpreted and edited to make it seem that he was advocating scrapping all reservations. He delivered the speech during a poll rally in Telangana.

However, in reality, the BJP leader had reiterated his party’s commitment to abolish the quota for Muslims on religious grounds.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police asked Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to join the probe on May 1 concerning Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s doctored video being circulated.

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police on Sunday registered an FIR after the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) filed a complaint about the doctored video of Shah.

The action came a day after BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that the Telangana Congress wing was spreading an edited video of Shah, “which is completely fake and has the potential to cause large-scale violence.”

The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act, they said. The sources in the Special Cell said that now arrests are likely to follow across the country.

BJP Urges EC To Take Act Against Cong Over Shah’s Morphed Video

The BJP on Monday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against the Congress, alleging that it circulated a deep fake and morphed video of Home Minister Amit Shah to derail the poll process, and demanded strict action against the party.

A BJP delegation comprising Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the party’s national media department in-charge Anil Baluni also complained against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), alleging that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led party has been using violence as a weapon, and demanded that the poll panel ensure a free and fair election in the state.
