No one seems to be blinking in the no holds-barred fight between the Aam Aadmi Party and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the alleged corruption case in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Soon after Jaitley filed a civil and a criminal defamation case against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal along with five other AAP leaders, the AAP hit back at him with more scathing remarks.
Vowing to uproot corruption, AAP leader Ashutosh likened the irregularities in the DDCA with those of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. "Arun Jaitley is the BJP's Kalmadi. BJP is neck deep in corruption, we will fight it out politically," he said while referring to Congress leader Suresh Kalmadi who is accused of corruption. He added that the AAP is exploring all legal options in the case.
Along with a Rs 10 crore civil defamation suit in the Delhi High Court for false statements against him and his family members, Jaitley has also filed a criminal defamation suit in the Patiala House Court. Criminal complaint has been filed under section 200 CrPC for commission of offences under section 499, 500, 501,502 IPC R/W section 34 & 35 of the IPC for making/writing/publishing false and defamatory statements/allegations in the print and electronic media against the complainant by the above named respondents/accused persons.
Apart from Kejriwal, other AAP leaders who have been named in the suit are Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and Deepak Bajpayee.
Backing Jaitley in the case, the BJP said that AAP merely wants to sensationalise. "Arun Jaitley will help them now understand travesty of the law. If AAP carries on with what they are doing, they will have to face charges," BJP leader Nalin Kohli said.
Not leaving any stone unturned to bring the Congress into the controversy, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said "We are ready to pass the juvenile justice bill today itself, but Congress must let house function first."
Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh who is leading AAP's counter attack has claimed that he will file an FIR against Jaitley "very soon". The Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the DDCA. AAP has also said that it will fight Jaitley in the people's court.
Stating the Delhi government's stand on the issue, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, "We decided in Cabinet meeting that in DDCA issue, inquiry of commission should be set up. Special assembly session has been called for this on Tuesday.
