AP says it will not be able to provide security for IPL.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has said it would not be possible to provide security for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches in the state in view of the next month's elections to the state assembly and the Lok Sabha.

While conveying to the central government its inability to provide security for the IPL matches in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam, the state home department has suggested that the IPL schedule be pushed beyond April 23 so that adequate security arrangements could be made.

Sources in the Andhra Pradesh Home Department said a letter in this regard was sent to the Union Home Ministry on Thursday.

Andhra Pradesh is going to simultaneous polls to the state assembly and the Lok Sabha in two phases - April 16 and 23.

Five IPL matches are tentatively scheduled in Hyderabad - on April 11, 13 and May 4, 10 and 16. The coastal city of Visakhapatnam, which has been added as the new IPL venue this year, was scheduled to host two matches April 26 and 30.

Home team Deccan Chargers was to play its matches at the two venues.

The sources said since the police and paramilitary forces needed to be moved for the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections, the home department has expressed its inability to provide adequate security arrangements.
