Ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, a controversy over ‘healing water’ surrounding All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal has surfaced. Last month, the Assam Government passed ‘The Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024’ in the Assembly, which aims to eradicate non-scientific healing practices.

As per the bill, no person shall take any part in healing practices and magical healing propagation for the treatment of any diseases, any disorder or any condition relating to the health of a person.

The bill was also discussed in the recently concluded budget session of the Assam Assembly.

Responding to a question about the same, AIUDF chief Ajmal said, “Don’t worry, if you need I’ll give (‘healing water’) to you also. I’ll provide my ‘healing water’ to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also. He mentioned in Assembly that would like to taste it. I can prepare ‘special healing water’ for CM Sarma.”

Badruddin Ajmal is known to attract voters’ attention with his ‘magic healing’ trick.

Ajmal presided over the party meeting to discuss election preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Stating that his party will contest from three LS Constituencies- Dhubri, Nagaon and Karimganj the AIUDF chief expressed confidence in winning all three seats.

Badruddin Ajmal told the media that Aminul Islam will be AIUDF’s candidate for the Nagaon constituency, while between Dr Baharul Islam and Shahabul Islam Chowdhury, one will be chosen as a candidate for Karimganj constituency. On the other hand, Ajmal himself will contest from the Dhubri Lok Sabha constituency.

Ajmal further took a jibe at Assam Congress leader Bhupen Bora over the delay in the announcement of candidates for the Lok Sabha polls and said, “Being the captain of his party, Bhupen Bora, leaving his playground in Assam he is staying in Delhi. It’s high time that Bora should stay in Assam to lead his party. Instead, he is wasting time by waiting for the senior leader’s nod to the candidates’ list. On the other hand, Rahul Gandhi is busy with his Nyay Yatra, god knows what Nyay is he seeking at this moment.”
