As the highly anticipated Women’s Premier League nears, there is yet to be official confirmation as to where the tournament will be taking place. The previous edition had taken place across three stadiums in Mumbai but official information regarding the 2024 edition is yet to come from the BCCI.
According to a report by IANS, the confirmation of the two cities being the venues for WPL 2024 is expected to arrive in the Governing Committee meeting slated to happen this week.
The report also suggested that New Delhi and Bengaluru would be hosting the tournament which according to the report, ‘will be ratified in the GC meeting.’

The report also mentions that “New Delhi has been given the confirmation for becoming a WPL hosting venue this year.”
However, after the 2024 WPL auctions, BCCI secretary Jay Shah mentioned that “Logistics are important and hence we will be holding all the matches in a single state.”
But he also added that it is a decision which is to be taken between the franchises and the BCCI. Jay Shah mentioned previously,” It is a joint call between the franchises and the BCCI so the moment we sit together we will decide.”

With regards to when the tournament would take place, the BCCI secretary had mentioned, “Most probably we will start the second season of the WPL in the second or third week of February.”
The previous season of the WPL took place across the DY Patil Stadium, Wankhede Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai where the tournament saw massive success. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Mumbai Indians side managed to get their hands on the title by defeating the Delhi Capitals.
Uncapped India pair of seam-bowling all-rounder Kashvee Gautam and batter Vrinda Dinesh earned huge paychecks of INR 2 crore and INR 1.3 crore from Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz respectively at the WPL 2024 player auction. Australia’s fast-bowling all-rounder Annabel Sutherland was the costliest overseas player at the auction with a paycheck of INR 2 crore from Delhi Capitals.
